Retail therapy is a form of coping defense for modern consumers to ward off any negative emotions and stress. It has been reported that, during economic downturns, consumers spend more time shopping, which often leads to shopping addiction.
During the pandemic of 2020, I've personally prescribed retail therapy to myself as a way to satisfy my lack of desires and needs. I found fulfillment in buying and owning the "goods" until I recognized that I have, instead, been owned by the Good Things.
